Rinse toor dal thoroughly and pressure cook with water, turmeric, and salt for 3-4 whistles until soft.
Mash the cooked dal lightly with a whisk and keep aside.
Heat ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
Add minced garlic and sauté until golden brown.
Add chopped onions and cook until translucent.
Add tomatoes and green chilies, cook until tomatoes are soft.
Add red chili powder and garam masala, mix well.
Pour this tempering (tadka) over the cooked dal and mix.
Simmer for 5 minutes, garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.
