Mix all five dals together and rinse thoroughly.

Pressure cook mixed dals with water, turmeric, and salt for 4-5 whistles until very soft.

Mash the dal mixture well with a whisk.

Heat ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds and asafoetida.

Add chopped garlic and ginger, sauté until aromatic.

Add onions and cook until golden brown.

Add tomatoes and green chilies, cook until tomatoes are soft.

Add red chili powder and coriander powder, cook for 2 minutes.

Pour this tempering over the dal and mix well.

Simmer for 10 minutes, add garam masala.

Garnish with fresh coriander and serve with bajra roti or rice.
